2 weeks prior to my trip to Happy Trails, there were approximately 90 roosters rescued from a cockfighting ring that was busted in Ohio.  While I was at the sanctuary, they had 60 roosters that needed to be placed.

Behind the wadding ducks in the kiddie pool are the rooster cages.

More cages in the far background.

Behind the ducks are carriers and cages that have roosters in them that were confiscated from illegal cockfighting rings.  Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary also has cages and carriers in a barn and in a garage.

Sadly, roosters generally cannot be kept together so they are harder to be placed for adoption than other farm animals. Some roosters are so aggressive from being trained for fighting that they are unable to be calm and area always aggressive.  Because of this, their chances for adoption are extremely remote.

Prepared rooster for fighting.

Cockfighting rooster confiscated by Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies in 2009 were cared for by Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna.

Ohio is one of 10 states where cockfighting is still a misdemeanor.  In preparation for cockfighting, the roosters’ comb and wattles are cut off.  Razors are then taped to their limbs.  Each animal is placed in a fighting ring from which they cannot escape from.  They are then coaxed to fight each other to their deaths while people bet on the winner or loser.

All photo's I took while a guest at Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary are of animals that were confiscated or rescued from abusive situations or horrible environments.

Some of the horses were purchased from a slaughterhouse auction.

Here I am with my new friend, Odessa.

Sweet Odessa lost one eye from an untreated eye infection. She was one of 75 animals removed from a neglect situation.

Farm kitties that are born on the farm, sleep in the barn with the chickens, roosters, sheep and goats.

Here's Odessa trying to intimidate the farm kitty.

Three days and 45 sessions later, the Psychic Affair fund drive at Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary is over.  On this last day of the event, I had four mini readings with horses!

Thank you, Annette, for inviting me to participate in Happy Trails' event.  And thank you Ilona for your wonderful hospitality!

To everyone at Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary - thank you, as well - it's been fun!

Freddy and Sam are such a delight!

Freddy, Sam and I communicated.  After we talked, they now know they have a permanent home together with Ilona where they are appreciated and loved.

Did you know that the United States has an association just for animal sanctuaries?

The American Sanctuary Association (ASA) was formed in 1998 and accredits organizations, such as Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary, which comply with the association's housing and care standards.
