2 weeks prior to my trip to Happy Trails, there were
approximately 90 roosters rescued from a cockfighting ring that was busted in
Ohio. While I was at the sanctuary,
they had 60 roosters that needed to be placed.
Behind the wadding ducks in the kiddie pool are the rooster cages.
More cages in the far background.
Behind the ducks are carriers and cages that have roosters
in them that were confiscated from illegal cockfighting rings. Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary also has
cages and carriers in a barn and in a garage.
Sadly, roosters generally cannot be kept together so they
are harder to be placed for adoption than other farm animals. Some roosters are
so aggressive from being trained for fighting that they are unable to be calm
and area always aggressive. Because of
this, their chances for adoption are extremely remote.
Prepared rooster for fighting.
Cockfighting rooster confiscated by Lorain County Sheriff’s
deputies in 2009 were cared for by Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in
Ravenna.

All photo's I took while a guest at Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary are of animals that were confiscated or rescued from abusive situations or horrible environments.

Some of the horses were purchased from a slaughterhouse
auction.
